Why waxing over other hair removal services?

  • Waxing is the only service that will give you the immediate results you’re looking for! Waxing weakens and eventually damages the hair follicle which results in slower hair growth, finer, lighter more sparse hair! Shaving only removes the hair from the surface (at a horrible angle!) leaving you with thicker, more dense hair. Laser hair removal, is more of a pricey commitment that has no guarantees. A good laser client is someone with very pale skin and darker hair, but not too dark!! This leaves the rest of us running to Southern Chic Wax!

What kind of wax do you use?

  • Here at Southern Chic Wax we use multiple waxes, It all depends on the area and skin texture. We love soft wax for eyebrows and are not afraid to use it! However, sometimes your skin type can only handle hard wax. Which is why we always use hard wax on the more sensitive areas, like a Brazilian. Hard wax is great because it only attaches to the hair and not the skin minimizing pain! We use a soft wax for larger areas such as legs, chest, arms, etc. This wax is removed with cloth. And lastly we use a film wax which is our in-between wax. This is great for facial services and all those little blonde fuzzies!

    Does waxing hurt?

  • Everyone is going to be a little different. We are pulling hair from the root so it can come with some discomfort. With our experience and technique we’ll make the experience as comfortable and pain
    free as possible!

What should I do before my appointment?

  • The hair should be about 1/4 of an inch long (generally 2 weeks without shaving). The hair needs to be long enough for the wax to attach, resulting in smoother results. A few days before your appointment, get a good exfoliation in on the area you intend to wax. Taking an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before will help reduce sensitivity and inflammation. Also, don’t forget to avoid caffeine and alcohol before your service; this can sometimes lead to even more sensitivity!

Are there any topical creams or medications I should avoid prior to getting waxed?

  • Yes! Internal Medications such as Accutane, or any other medications that can cause sun sensitivity’s. Also avoid topicals that include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Differin, & Benzoyl Peroxide. All of these can enhance skin sensitivity that could lead to lifting of the skin when removing hair.

Can I get waxed on my period?

  • You can! But keep in mind; (due to hormones) you might be a little more sensitive. If you’re concerned with the increased sensitivity, avoid waxing while on your period and 3 days before and after your cycle.

Can I get waxed while pregnant?

  • Of course, right up to your due date! We have an angled Tempurpedic Pillow to prop you Mommies up comfortably throughout every service!

    Do I need an appointment?

  • Yes! Being such a new and small business we are unfortunately unable to take walk-ins. BUT! Our online booking makes it all very easy and you can also give the business line a call or even shoot us a text!
